Introduction

Your privacy is important to me. This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the taktLife application and website.

By using taktLife, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. taktLife is designed to be privacy-first and offline-first: your study data — flashcards, decks, and review history — lives on your device, and I only process data on my servers when you create an account, enable sync, use optional AI generation, or subscribe to taktLife Pro.

1. Information I Collect

I collect only the information necessary to provide and improve the service. I do not sell your personal data, and I do not use advertising technologies.

1.1 User Content (Local First)

taktLife is a local-first application. Your flashcards, decks, review history, and FSRS scheduling state are stored locally on your device. I do not have access to this content unless you choose to sign in and enable sync.

1.2 Account & Sync Data

If you sign in and enable sync, I process:

• Your email address, verified via a one-time password (OTP) sent by my email delivery provider, IONOS
• An encrypted sync payload of your deck and card data, transmitted through PowerSync to EU-hosted storage on IONOS

1.3 AI Features (Opt-In, Cloud-Processed)

taktLife's AI features (e.g., AI card generation) are opt-in and processed in the cloud by Google Gemini — the text you submit is sent to Google only after you turn the feature on. Nothing is sent for AI processing until you opt in.

1.4 Subscription Data

taktLife Pro is a subscription billed through Apple via the App Store. I receive your subscription status and entitlement information from RevenueCat — not your payment card details or Apple ID credentials.

1.5 Website & App Usage Data (Umami Analytics)

I use Umami Analytics to collect limited usage data on the website and in the app. This helps me monitor service performance and improve features.

• Privacy Focused: Umami does not use cookies and does not collect any personally identifiable information (PII).
• No Tracking: I do not track you across other apps or websites.

2. How I Use Your Information

I use the information I collect solely for the following purposes:

• Service Delivery: To provide sync, AI generation, and subscription features you request.
• Service Improvement: To analyze usage patterns and optimize the experience.
• Technical Support: To respond to your support requests.
• Legal Compliance: To comply with legal obligations and protect my rights.

3. AI Generation and Consent

When you use AI card generation, the text you provide — such as notes or card content — is sent to Google Gemini to generate flashcards and explanations. This happens only after you opt in when first using the feature or in Settings.

You can revoke consent at any time by turning off AI generation in Settings → AI generation. After revocation, no new content is sent to Google Gemini. Cards already generated remain on your device.

4. Subscriptions

taktLife Pro is a subscription managed through RevenueCat. Payment is processed by Apple via the App Store. I receive subscription status and entitlement information, not your payment card number or Apple ID credentials.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

I use a limited number of trusted service providers, and share data with them only as needed to provide the service:

• Google (Gemini): Card and explanation text you submit for AI generation, only after you opt in.
• RevenueCat: Subscription management for taktLife Pro, including entitlement status.
• PowerSync: Encrypted sync engine for the account data you choose to sync.
• IONOS: EU-based hosting and storage for synced account data, and delivery of OTP login emails.
• Umami: Privacy-first, cookieless analytics to understand how the app and website are used.

I require these parties to protect shared data to a standard equivalent to this policy, through contractual and technical safeguards.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

• Account and sync data is retained while your account is active.
• OTP login emails are ephemeral and not stored by me after delivery.
• Analytics data is aggregated and retained only as long as needed for service improvement.
• After account deletion, server-side account and sync data is removed within 30 days.

You can delete your account from within the app. This removes your account and synced data from my servers within 30 days. Data stored locally on your device is removed when you delete the app or clear its data.

7. Your Privacy Rights (GDPR)

Depending on your location, you have rights regarding your personal information:

• Access & Portability: Request a copy of the personal data I hold about you.
• Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Deletion: Request erasure of your data.
• Restriction & Objection: Restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests.
• Complaints: Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Legal basis for processing

I process personal data on the following bases:

• Contract: To provide the app, account, and sync services you request.
• Consent: For AI card generation (Google Gemini). You can withdraw consent in Settings at any time.
• Legitimate interest: For security, fraud prevention, and minimal service improvement analytics, balanced against your privacy rights.

8. Children's Privacy

taktLife is not intended for children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

I may update this policy from time to time. I will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of taktLife after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
